nice work, will add to diy sticky. if you want to easy remove the sticky goo left behind, get some "eucalyptus oil" or "tea tree oil" works a treat getting rid of it, wont damage paint & is safe to use on the play-field of a pinball machine too

Mine left so little residue I used goof off and it worked great. There are a ton of great options for residue removal though so use whatever you have handy that won't interfere with a painted surface.

 

What made you decide to remove the reflective rim tape? Just curious

 

That color green was not at all what I wanted or expected it to be.

Could be why it was easy to get off.

 

That isn't factory tape, but prior to this method I was experiencing the same headaches. Flakes and tiny pieces were all that was coming off, and they were leaving a ton of residue behind. Maybe my method won't work for factory tape, but I strongly suspect it will.

 

I used a regular razor to remove my Speed Metal reflective tape. Took 3 minutes for both sides, no damage to wheels. Cleaned off adhesive with mineral spirits. Mineral spirits removes adhesive with no effort at all.

 

interesting... works as well as kerosene?
i've always used kerosene to remove adhesives but if the alt mineral spirits works just as well with less odor that'd be awesome
