quality issues???

what you mean fairing that falls apart when you look sideways at it??? my 2013 green/black was taken back by kwaka oz to head office in sydney cos it was a lemon.

and you mean the crappy steering bearings???

and the crappy ECU???

and the crappy brake issues???

nnaaaahhh

no quality issues with Thailand

lol

well, if they make then in japan now i wonder if the price goes up? and i wonder if quality will go up too
Well they only mentioned the fairings and ecu, I don't think they will stop using the garbage bearings.

I can post a pic but it'll have to wait until tomorrow, I'm sure someone else can snap a picture real quick for all the skeptics out there? Any takers?

i have no doubt your telling the truth the new 300's are mode in japan, i find it amusing kwaka would go and retool a factory in japan or relocate the old factory from thailand and move to japan to fix the issues

why not use some common sense and supply the factory in thailand with decent friggin parts in the first place, it aint rocket science, oops there i go again, assuming the use of commons sense, now days common sense is so rare it should be called a super power

i find it funny they want to make the bike in japan rather then Thailand cos of quality issues.

if they shove the same crap parts on the bike in japan, guess what, you still have the same crap bike

if you use decent parts in Thailand, you fix the faults

makes me laugh it really does
I agree with this 100%. QC is QC, regardless of where the bike is made...Crap parts = Crap bikes!...

yep make it in China, Thailand , Australia, USA, Canada, outer space what ever i dont give a shit, makes zero difference, its the parts that matter

at least if they are doing this im over the moon they are cos fingers crossed with all the new bikes other riders wont have to go thru the complete fucking bullshit 9 month episode i went thru with writing letters and taking photos and being treated like a total fucking deakhead by my local dealer

i keep my fingered crossed this is true about kwaka admitting there is quality issues and doing something about it

moving it all to japan is overkill IMHO but what ever, i dont care, can only mean more happier customers in the long run, a better reputation for the bike and more sales to kick the ass of the competition and if thats the case, i take my hat off to kwaka for having the balls to step up to the plate and get it right and own the problem

kwaka oz after 9 months stepped up to the plate and replaced my bike with a new one and i never even asked them for it

i hope this is true and good to see kwaka owing up and tasking responsibility

well done kwaka

Heh yeah kidding about the pix - I believe ya. I guess Kawi now has no excuse to not get it right!

i would still like to see the pix of the compliance plate that says

made in japan

then it will be a truly magnificent day, for all of us who have written letters to kwaka and taken our bikes back and complained long and loud and made sure we were heard and not forgotten about

this truely is a great victory for the "nay sayers" who said i and others were wasting their time by writing letters, email, taking photos etc

People Power!!!

Love it:woohoo2_smilie:

Made in Japan and 'assembled' in Japan are 2 different things. From what I've seen the build quality is the exact same on the 2014s. I've seen multiple on the showroom floor with the fairing gap.

I have a "J" in my vin, I will check when I get home.

my 2014 i collected in september 2013, its made in thaliand

anyhow, this is good news, i hope now all the quality issues for all new bikes is resolved, oh man oh man, i keep my fingers crossed

Actually, my bike was manufactured in Japan on 09/13. I noticed it when I was taking pictures for my insurance company at the dealership.

ah ha!!!

and a different looking compliance plate as well, stuck to the frame of the bike rather then the steering stem

Checked mine. Made in Thailand. Guess they did switch. Either way just cuz they change where its put together doesn't mean it is put together any better. The real question is where the parts are sourced from both years.

spot on, thats what i said earlier

Maybe it was easier and faster for production to be made in Japan, because the correct parts are made there *Shrug*

The ones I saw at out recent show looked the same as 2013. Same cheese bolts (shared with the zx6r), same popped fairing etc. Just put together by different people.

lol

i wonder if kwaka retooled a factory or just moved the old one from thailand to japan?

10/13 Made in Japan

My vin also has the J in it and it's a 2013 ABS model. I believe it's because the vast majority of the parts were manufactured in Japan and then shipped and assembled in Thailand. Because the vast majority of it was made in Japan, they were required to use Japan as the country of manufacture on a large portion of the bikes. Like maybe there was an issue with customs on the origin of manufacture and Kawasaki was forced to re-label later model bikes? I know some countries require the country of manufacture to be where the majority of the product was manufactured at, and not the location where it was assembled in order to prevent companies from back dooring tariffs by using the "developing nation" clause. I believe the U.S. and the U.K. are two places that come to mind that reduce or eliminate tariffs for developing nations (which Thailand falls under,) and have checks in place to make sure companies aren't trying to cheat the system but getting cheaper labor of assembly AND dodging import taxes.
