First off, I wanna thank Doug Wells from Yoshimura for taking the time to contact me and work with me on the Yoshimura Ninja 300 rear set kit's shift rod problem. The guy is really patient and helpful, and for that I'm much appreciative. He also was kind to send me a Yoshi hat, water bottle, two Yoshimura muffler keychains, and of course most important a shift rod that fits with the kit! It seems like all this back and forth with Yoshimura influenced them to test their parts on a new Ninja 300 that was not their orginal R&D bike. It seems there was a legitimate problem with the fitting of their Ninja 300 rear set kit. HOPEFULLY to all those who have purchased or will purchase this set will not run into the same problem I have, but if so, they now have a replacement shiftrod to correct it.
As for the kit itself, its everything I expected it to be....awesome! I'm 5'6" with fairly long legs in proportion to my body. Although rear sets make most people feel "cramped" on their bike, I welcome the new riding position. It helps me keep an aggressive body position and allows my legs to do more "suspension" work on bumpy roads and better grip on the tank with my thighs. Also, for me the kit helped me become inspired with confidence while taking corners since my feet and pegs are farther from the ground than the original stock position.
Aside from the mix-up with the shift rod size, all in all it was a great rear set product aside from replacing the whole rearset for aftermarket ones.
In the kit's instructions, it said I would need to cut the tube running from the rear break reservoir to make the brake side rear set fit. I didn't want to cut anything, so I just pushed it back a bit, and it works just fine. Whether or not this is a good idea, it hasn't caused any problems so far.
AND, Thnx spacep0d for giving your buddy at Yoshi a shout out of my thread..much appreciated!
