Dammit all to hell. I cant get my brake master positioned correctly with the oem throttle cables on bottom. I didnt take into account that the brake line and banjo plugs into the bottom of the master…. I hate that lol. Spend $600 upgrading my front brake only to find out that to position it correct I’ll need an aftermarket throttle and if I get an aftermarket throttle I’ll need to buy a separate start/stop switch.😞
No turning back now, I ordered a Motion Pro Rev3 throttle and a start stop switch. Theres no way I’m using this brake master sticking up in the air higher than my oem master was. After all, that’s one of the reasons I switched in the first place…. I told you guys this was a winter project 🤨

Also, even if I could get it in an ideal position, there arm on the brake lever that pushes the brake light switch would have to constantly be rubbing on the throttle cables. If that popped in behind it and jammed the brake on it could be a bad day🥸

Hopefully the area 3 comes with a good length cable for the stock bars. I had to get an addition 70mm (or 75mm???) added to the cables they include in the Rev3 kit for the ex300.

I went round and round with the guy from motionpro. They were cool in the end - but it took a while to convince them that there is just no way to route the cables well if you have woodcraft clipons. They were convinced the cables they provide should work. No way. Binding something awful.

Hmm, we will see I hope they work obviously lol. Did they exchange them or did they make you buy a spare set?

Did you route them through the frame like oem or just through the forks and down the left side of the frame?

They were talking like I’d need a custom set. But with a ton of photos showing that it just wouldn’t work, they finally agreed to send me “one time ONLY” a set that would work.

I really wanted to hear them say that they would change the ex300 kit to provide the length I got. But they didn’t seem like that was happening. I’m sure there are a bunch floating out there on shelves. So it would be a can of worms.

Where did you order from?

Parts giant, I've ordered from them dozens of times and they are pretty good. I emailed Motion Pro after you posted and asked if the kit would work with the stock handlebars and they assured me it does. We'll see but at least I can say "I asked and you told me it would work!" Haha. Maybe you just got a dud kit with the wrong size cables or maybe they just used the wrong length to begin with? If anything, you should have had more slack with the clip-ons being lower than the oem bars...

Did the cables have 90 degree ends on both sides because the stock cables where they connect to the throttle bodies are 90 degree and in the pictures Motion Pro only shows the bends on the throttle ends...

I just looked up what they want for a set of "custom cables" for the Rev3, $156. If they're too short, I'm not even going to mess with it, I'll return the kit and buy a Domino throttle I guess.

Yep. They definitely bend at 90° into the throttle at the bar end. The key factor was the routing. After unsuccessfully attempting to get them to work the same way every Rev2/3 I’ve installed or even seen, they finally told me that the Kawi 300 required a convoluted routing compared to other bikes. They sent me a special install sheet (let me know if you need it).

The cable must cross the motor and come up from beneath the bars. And it also requires the cable entry to be on the bottom of the bars - instead of the top. With my clipons it aimed the cable directly into the fork. Ugh!

Even when I tried this, there was zero slack. And that was with the throttle far inbound of my comfort zone. I thought I was going crazy. Many, MANY emails and photos later, I finally got the longer cables. Fit perfect now. Just like every pic you’ve ever seen of a Rev3 install.

The cables that were originally shipped with the kit were confirmed to be the length they “should” be by MotionPro.

At this point, if the inner cable becomes weak/frayed, I’ll just make my own inner, as long as the outer housing is in good condition.

Bullshit it should require strange routing compared to other bikes lol. Obviously they used the wrong length cables or you would be ABLE to route the cables like every other bike. Looks like it's going to be Domino for me, theres no way I'm running the cables beneath the bar, that's the whole reason I bought the kit to begin with lol.

That’s what I was afraid of. Not sure it will work for you.

I think the main issue was that they provided cables matching the stock length. But this doesn’t take into account the extra length required by their throttle design. Oops.

I should have posted up something about this whole ordeal. Might have saved you some headache.

Who knows, maybe they took my advice and changed it! :)

Yeah, I just tried to call and cancel but they closed. I'll wait and see if it'll work but if not they have great customer service and free returns. Also I just checked and Carpimoto has the domino throttle tube w/cams for $50 and the Ninja 300 specific Domino cables for $50. Italy to the rescue again! Okay, from now on I'm checking there first because I could have saved money and most likely gotten it quicker again lol.

Damn. That place is a gold mine!

I’ve never used the domino throttles. But they seem pretty swank.

I would ask them to send you the measurements of the kawi cables before you pull the trigger. Even if you rough out a routing with some string to make sure - would be worth it for peace of mind.

You should start a thread and show what you have been doing to your bike! I thought about starting a thread asking which throttle to get but everytime I do that asking about a particular part on here it’s crickets. Cheep cheep cheep cheep. 😂.

Its fine anyway, if it doesn’t work I’ll try domino and if those cables are too short ill get their universal cables and make my own length.

You definitely have a healthy attitude about it. Need to roll with it when these things happen. At least time is on your side with the weather. But by the time the thaw comes you’re going to have one hell of a set of upgrades!

I wish I had gotten better build/repair pics along the way. I have some decent shots, but there are certainly gaps in the progress.

Might be helpful to someone though. I’ve certainly had my trials and tribulations with this bike. A tale of caution for those who might also buy the cheapest bike for the track??? :)

Yeah it seems like everything I do to this bike requires some level of tweaking even if they are “bolt on” parts. I ended up buying Spears racing’s Brembo specific brake line made EXACTLY for the Brembo P4 caliper/Ninja 300. The fitting that goes into the caliper was too long so it bottomed out before it got close to the crush washer. Wth lol. I had to modify that to fit. Gregg said he was happy to send me a label to return it or I could double up crush washers. I shortened it to fit as it should since I bought it because I wanted to use it not return it and theres no way I’m doubling crush washers.

Isn’t it an issue when a part made specifically to fit a certain application doesn’t fit? I guess only to those of us dumb enough to buy that part😂

And like you said, I have plenty of time so I’m not worried about having to return it and try something else. If it was June though Id be livid.

Start a thread, I’d like to see what you’ve been up to with your bike. Nobody ever posts here anymore, It’s only new people that make an account to ask one question and then they never return🥹

Really??? WTF? The whole "made specifically for this bike....except it has to be modified" is getting exhausting! I really wish places would get their shit together and either test fit the products themselves or just admit that it may take some tweaking. It would leave a better impression of the vendor.

OK. You've convinced me. I'll gather my photos and start up a thread!
