Wondering if I can fit a medium sized pistol in the rear compartment of a 300. I can carry my gun on my hip while riding, but when i go to work, i can't have it while on the floor, so I either have to leave it in the bike, or at home which i'd rather not do.

If anyone has a pistol, see if it fits and let me know what kind it is whether it fits or not. Thank you so much.

I have a Walther .380, which is about the size of my walther P22. I also have a PPQ 9mm, but I'm certain that is way too large.

Medic45. Under the rear seat are two compartments. The first one cannot hold anything. However the one under contains the tool kit. If I remove the tool kit, I can fit an S & W 642, but I have to place it butt first and I won't have a tool kit. The S&W is about the same size as a Walther PPK .380. There is a plastic divider in the second compartment which can be shaved off which means you could place it in barrel first, but again, you'll have to chuck the tool kit. Hope this helps you

Also my glock 27 (even without the mag extension) will not fit. If you remove the first container which is integrated into the cover for the second, it would create more room and perhaps you could keep the tool kit and place a Walther in there slide down, butt up and towards the rear of e bike.

Anyway, this is an interesting concept. You couldn't pay me enough to carry a loaded gun on my person while I was riding a sport bike*. Noooo thank you! However, if you need your weapon, isn't it a little inconvenient to have it stashed under the seat? Not exactly lickety-split access.
I bet one of those adorable small caliber Rugers would tuck into the storage space like nothin', though!


*= Watch me eat my words a few years down the road in re: "packing heat" on a sport bike. Right this second, though, I would not object to the packing style of certain Southern California motorcycle cops who happen to cruise around with M-14s mounted on the rear of their bikes. Of course, they're cops, so they can do that.

I don't carry it in the compartment. I carry it openly on my hip as per our state law. I need a place to store it when I go into someplace where I cannot carry it.

There is no danger of carrying what so ever. Worst case you fall and land on the firearm and scrape it up, and you get ticked off. Or someone stealing your bike completely, but that's what insurance is for.

Oh, my mind immediately jumped to the worst possible - no matter how highly unlikely - outcomes if I were to try something like that. I mean, those aside from getting arrested. CA gun laws are bogus.
None of that had much to do with the original question, to which my immediate answer would've been a blank stare. And it seems like j0hnga1t already nailed it anyway.

My S&W MP340 (j-frame) fits in the area with the tool kit.

If you want to carry, pocket carry even at work when you're not "supposed" to. If not, buy some pepper spray or a tazer if you feel the need for self defense. I carry everywhere as long as I am not drinking. The only time I will pull it out will be when it saves my life and

I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I will wear my dress blues at my trial and have a good lawyer.

The compartment in the back is not very big. You might be able to fit compact handguns but I don't think any medium sized handgun would fit without modification.

I took out the 2 little cotter pins, and took the tray bolts and the tray out to make one big compartment. I can fit my oakleys, my PPQ 9mm and my gloves in there with no problem.

I was thinking the same thing.. If you look down at the divider, it actually has "TOOL" scribed onto one side of it. Is it just me or does that tool kit take up both sides of that tray and just sit on top of the divider..

I am getting ready to just ditch the took kit though, I have never once in my life used or even needed a motorcycle tool kit..

I wouldn't be doing that. It wont be there when you need it.

If you do have the time to get your gun out, your legal position will be dicey. Chances are, if you are prosecuted, they will ask "in the time you used to get your gun out, you could of gotten on your bike and ridden away. Why didn't you?".

I use the top tray to separate my turkey sandwich from the banana in the compartment below. Isn't that what it's for?
