SSR Triple Tree Nut

Every day I ride my 300 to work and I look down and see that silver triple tree nut and HATE it. Silver does not belong there, everything is black! On eBay I found the SSR triple tree nut and they offered a black one. So I bought it.. I think it was $30 after shipping.. Install was easy, I dont have large metric sockets, but a 7/8" socket fits the stock bolt perfectly. And then for the install of the SSR bolt I wrapped it in a rag and then used a 1-1/4" socket and was able to get it plenty light with zero slipping or damage to the bolts finish.

.

For $30 I think its a great little mod just to make the bike look a little bit better..

Went the cheap route today and Plasti Dip my nut, did I really say that :D

Took about 40 minutes and 4 coats of Plasti Dip to cover. Best part it used 1/5 or less of a can that cost $6 here.

Just to add, with the Plasti Dip I only had to put paper to cover the handlebars and gas tank (2 minutes of taping) for the overspray. When I finished I just peeled the excess off and a perfect removal around the nut.

Sweet job Delnari, that looks really good. I like how it has that matt finish like the surrounding parts......
Can you tell me where did you get this nut? Online site?

Mine should be here any day now. I've actually got the matching oil filler cap for it already on the bike.
I got a red one for mine. Love tge look.

I was going to buy one of those but I will be getting a GPR steering damper installed soon so you will not be able to actually see the nut. I may paint the nut anyway just because I am totally anal about stuff on my motorcycles.

The red goes well with the green bike!

There's many a woman that would probably want to do that to both my nuts!:blinksmilie: I've got to find them first though...;)

! :emot-worship:

on a more serious side of things, is this a silly simple take out the screw and put the new one in or is it more complicated then that?
mine will more than likely be delivered tomorrow and I don't want to take the nut out and the bike falls apart.

sorry to bumb such an old thread by the way.
Very nice!
I'm just curious what's underneath the nut. I'd rather take it out and plasti dip it than cover it.

Yea Simply undo the old nut and put the new one in :)

It holds the steering stem nut in place so that the tension doesn't change.
Yes the 08-12 Ninja bolt would be the same. Its a smooth flat black though, and it wont match the triple tree either.

I just looked up the cost online of the black 250R bolt and its about $18 from my local dealer..

$12 more and it doesnt look stock, its worth it to a mod'er like myself :)
I know your post is quite old, but just wanted to share this photo I found on google of a '09 Ninja 250 and the stock nut seems to match the black triple tree on the 250 quite well. Has the color of the triple tree on the 300 changed in color from the 250? It looks the same to me.

It's the same.
It's the same.
I figured as much. I looked up the pricing of the 250 bolt and it's about $13 + tax from a local shop I buy from time to time. Adding to the list of my future upgrades.

Been looking at some photos of the steering stem ass'y and I don't see how this bolt is really doing anything other than just covering the stem opening, and to some minor extent, helping to clamp the top triple to the stem ass'y. Seems that the pinch bolts (holding the fork tubes) also share some (if not most) of the clamping duties. Please advise if I'm wrong. :smile2:

Reason I'm even looking at this - is I want to drill/tap a 1/4-20 hole down the center of this bolt (from the top) to mount a RAM ball right there, lol.
Its supposed to put pressure on the locking nut underneath the top triple so as to keep it from coming loose. The stem bolt is supposed to be torqued down before the bolts that clamp the fork tubes to the triple are tightened. As to of you can drill and tap a hole in the bolt yea shouldnt be an issue seeing as the ssr ones are hollow. Wont weaken it enough to cause any issues.
