I believe it's to catch any liquids (oil, fuel, coolant) that might leak.Peanut why do race bikes have "belly pans" is a requirement or is there more to it than that? Or does it add to the aerodynamics?
This. It is a requirement that race bikes have a fluid retentive belly pan. If an engine blows during a race and spills oil on the track everyone wrecks. Belly pans don't catch all of the fluids, but they do limit the amount spilled and make it easier to avoid and clean up.I believe it's to catch any liquids (oil, fuel, coolant) that might leak.
