Been getting a lot of people asking me what I used and how I got my stock exhaust heat shields flat black. I scuff it up with a red 3M scuff pad, cleaned it up with wax and grease remover and applied 5 wet coats of Plasti-Dip.
This is the end result:
If you've done any Plast-Dip work on your bike; post it up.
Few friends went on a mountain run and a blind turn got me so I decided to try something with the fairing that took the hit. Blacked out the vent...tell me what you think. I am liking it!
Next is to black out the two recesses behind the seat.
Another good use for the black Plasti Dip is the mirror housing and stem. I'm always hitting something with my mirrors and they get marked up after a while. Go ahead and put the Plasti Dip on them while new and you might be able to keep yours from getting marked up to begin with. Either way, the finish is good before or after. Just a thought.
I like the look. Did the same thing with the chrome emblems on rear and from of my car. Didn't want to removed them but didn't like the look of them either. Now they are hard to see and I can put it back to stock when I sell it.
Hope this works. First attempt at plasti dip. Will be doing the other unpainted fairings in the near future. Just trying to source the spray trigger locally. Damn Australia taking so long to get stuff.
