I was given a quote for a Ninja 300 in Dubai with the VIN

jkaex300aada05746

Kawasaki site does not recognize this VIN, neither does any site that decode VINs.

It would not be hard for the Chinese to copy the bike, but they again I am sure they would be smart enough to put a valid VIN on it that which would pass the checksum.

Am I missing something? Does anyone have a similar VIN?

Mine has 17 characters too and starts with JKAEX8. Maybe that first "a" is an 8 or there is some letter or number off if someone gave you the no. over the phone. I doubt Kawa would allow any copying. I'm sure it's the real deal. I would be able to spot a fake, but then I already own one. If it's a Kawa dealer, for sure it's no fake.

Ya, I would recontact the seller and have then reread the vin slowly and clearly.

Shoot, try the B for dog E for egg method so you know for sure your getting the correct thing written down ;)

I had the same problem with mine. My insurance agency said the 300 wasn't even loaded in their system yet. She said it's pretty common with brand new bikes and not to worry. They just did an override.

It is the agency, it is called Liberty here, but they are somewhat the official Kawasaki dealer here. What got me worried is that he said they are buying the bikes from other dealers in Asia cause the manufacturer can not deliver on the demand they have. So I started thinking what if they are being fooled by someone in China. VINs have a standard and the VIN needs to at least pass the validation test to show that it is a real VIN, even if it is not in the database of whatever entity is looking for it, kind of like credit cards..

I contacted him and he said this is the VIN right from the bike, although I doubt he bothered check, I might have to wait for Kawasaki in the U.S. to open to call and verify the VIN. The Chinese make cars that look exactly like a Benz, a bike should not be that hard....

That VIN is definitely incorrect, though it is close.

For the 300, it should be very similar to: JKAEX8A14D_A#####

The blank is a check digit and can vary. The last 5 digits are your serial/batch code. The "300" shouldn't be in the VIN.

Can you go to the dealer and get the VIN yourself?
