Before I even attempt to do this thing myself, what do i need to know? How long can someone who's never done it before be expected to free up? What sort of accessories besides basic tools do i need (got those covered! :D) Do I gotta remove a fairing or...?

trying to plan my afternoon out and wondering if it's something to try today in the next 45 minutes or better to wait until my days off on T/W.

i think im going to wait until tuesday anyways. couple of reasons:

1. there's a bike show this weekend at Quaker Steak
2. i have to nap tomorrow; got a ticket to the Lightning vs. Flyers (wooo penalty box seat!!!!)
3. Gotta go buy a cotter pin or two in case i break it and some lock washers; maybe a cheap torque wrench from harbor freight if i need it which i think(?) i do.

is that a no go on fairing removal necessary?

no u do not need to remove the fairing just the sprocket cover
you will need something to tap the sprocket in if it doesnt slide easily
so a wooden or rubber mallet would work well
if you are good at following directions you can do it
i would not buy a CHEAP torque wrench always get good tools
u can do it if u need help dont keep doing it come on here
and ask us dont wanna botch the job

i went out and looked it over seems pretty straight forward. i love doing things by hand but i worry about it too because if you screw up it's completely on you lol.

my biggest concern now honestly is making sure i keep that rear wheel in alignment. ill find out tuesday lol

It's pretty simple. The markings are never perfect, you can buy or make a tool to check for true axle alignment by measuring to the swingarm pivot. Use the marks, don't go too tight on the chain and you'll be fine.

copy sir. btw thanks for the help and encouragement. sometimes i feel like i'm asking dumb questions yet we all know the only dumb question is the one that's never asked... unless it's something like "I want to do stunts on public highways at 100mph while wearing no protective gear and drunk. should i?"
