I have heard from other and also seen here on the forums that I could expect these add on charges tacked onto my quote at any dealership.

My question: What is the actual cost to the dealership for freight and prep/installation? Has anyone worked for a dealer before? I had read on a forum dated back to 2007 that these service fees are usually already accounted for in the MSRP..

Forgive me, I am still a noob when it comes to dealing with dealerships. :)

Black magic these fees are. I am sure they are different per region and dealer. But most fees are extra BS from either the dealer or state requirements/laws.

The dealership does not pay anything. They receive the bike almost fully assembled and can't sell it to you without assembling it so it is a BS fee. The dealer is making a few hundred over cost if they sell you the bike at MSRP with NO FEES on top.

One of my local dealerships does not add an extra nickel to the price. They get most of my business.

Thanks guys!! Now that I know that they aren't charged extra from the manufacturer.. I can use this in my negotiating and talk them down a bit if they try to use these BS fees.

I was told by my dealer that the dealerships don't receive any incentives from Kawasaki for selling the 250Rs and 300s (which sounds plausible to me considering the low prices of these bikes), so they're a little less willing to budge on the base prices and the extra fees are really where the dealer is going to make their money.

I was easily able get my dealer down to less than $100 tacked onto MSRP + tax, title and tag, so they can't be too hard up with these bikes, but it's something to consider if a dealer seems like they're just being greedy.

Yeah the more confident and aggressive you are the more likely they are to sell it.

Something like "I can buy this somewhere else for MSRP without added fees but I would prefer to be a customer here because it is closer so I just want to know if you can offer me the same deal."

They should do it...but some may not.

Yeah, that was the strategy I took. I came in and told them, "$5200 and I'll write you a check for deposit right now." I'm a big softy, so I just gave it to them when they came back just $25 higher than that.

Lol my plan is to understand how the back and forth game is played. It's sort of like playing poker.

I will go in there with a reasonable OTD number (based on my research) in my head on which I will not pay over. Once I get into the dealer I will tell them I am looking to pay no more than a price a few hundred under my "magic number", they will come back and say "oh, I'm sorry but we just can't go that low, but we can offer this..." After playing the game with them, I can get a feel on what I can do. Whether I feel I can still maybe get it lower by playing hardball, but a serious buyer, or the number seems firm enough on their end, but under my "magic number", I will take the offer and maybe negotiate for discounted gear or gear included.

This seems to be my strategy at the moment. However, I won't be able to purchase until February most likely anyways.

i just got out of the dealership. they are charging 600+ for taking it out of the crate and 300+ for prep.

they even have it tagged next to the price on a sticker hanging on the mirror of the bike.

and even though they seemed like they haven't made a buck at that place all winter, I think they would say they cant not charge that.

but that is seriously ridiculous. so how much success has everyone had at avoiding paying these $1000 fees?

I really want to give these guys my business because they are like 10min from home if i ever need something done i cant do myself. and i did talk to them about prices and discounts on gear, and they can legitimately get me gear at seriously surprising discounts. for example a helmet that msrp is $210 on the internet and shops is only $205.60 with them AFTER taxes with discount, it was something like $186 before taxes with discount.

anyways! so yeah, how is/has everyone done with getting those fees "overlooked" or "reduced?" because i really want to support my local motorcycle dealers, but don't want to pay for their economic misfortune.

Go to a few dealers...get their prices and start playing them against each other..I had three going at once fighting over prices so much fun :) Ended up 1k cheaper and gear thrown in. The delivery fee and all that are just bs fees to line their pocket more and are very easy for them to adjust. Just remember confidence is the key!

If you are in the States and a member of Costco & The dealer is part of the Costco program they sell the bike to you for $4,899.00 or better including the dealer fees (not including tax or Reg) Go on costco website and read about it. Costco can be joined for $60.00 for a 1 year membership I believe
Now get this...You also recieve from Costco a $250.00 gift card
not bad huh?

I sell cars for a living and have worked for new car dealerships and used car dealerships

when buying anything new or used admin is just a cash grab !!!

You mentioned what the dealer pays that is very complicated because no dealer pays the same amount for a new bike as another because there are volume bonuses!! which means tipicley the dealer that sells the most bikes pays the least amount, but they usually are less likley to negociate on price because they no there going to move alot of inventory!

I just bought my bike on the 3rd and I called 6 dealers and negociated that way but the dealer that moved the most inventory wanted to charge me 7200 all in, and I ended up getting an se for 5100 all in ( canada has 13% tax) I believe the best time to buying anything is the off season because, we would rather sell a bike for cost in the winter to make room for something like a snowmobile that I can make money off of!

And Btw when the dealer started talking to me about admins and freight I just told him stop pitching me no BS stuff all I care about is how much money I have to give you to take the bike today, I believe when you say today to a seller it helps them relize that you are a buyer and not just wasting time!
