Good find. A lot of good points there too.
Nice! great video! I wish they allowed lane splitting by me... =(
In the vid they bring up a good one " it's my job to make sure they don't run into me" specially since lane splitting is illegal in NSW atm.
I won't lie I lane split myself when traffic is stopped at a red light, if a light goes green before i get to the front i will pick a gap and move into a lane.
Last week i was splitting lanes with another random rider, light went green i moved into a lane other rider continued splitting. A couple cars ahead was a truck so you couldn't see what was ahead, the truck had let an on coming car turn into a side street and boom rider hit the car.
So keep scanning and use some common sence if you decide to.
Sorry for the life story, i learnt from this and i'm sure others can too.

I'm fine with lane splitting so long as everyone is used to it. I don't think it could be introduced in North America at this point, cagers wouldn't be accustomed to it and I don't think they could adapt. Sure a few people will pick it up fast, but all the people already on the road with terrible skills wont. If they havent adapted to driving with traffic as it is, they're not going to with filtering.

When I was in Singapore in 2008 for a long term assignment everyone filtered. Also there was a lot more Bikes on the road than most places here. Like a lot more. Traffic even during rush hours was pretty smooth.
i need to get a gopro truly; today i saw an obese dude in a publix uniform trying to squeeze by a car on what appeared to be a 49cc scooter... yes truly i need a gopro for the visual evidence alone

Ha. You beat me to it. I was actually just about to post this. I wish it was legal in VA!
For you california riders...

I just did it yesterday. Typically go 5-10 MPH faster so that's only like a total of 15-20 mph. Stay safe and watch out for sudden lane changes or people doing stupid crap because they are mad we can do this. I hate seeing people split lanes when it is not needed. If I'm in my large truck going 75 I am not expecting to share a lane with a bike coming up on my right at 90+. Be smart, stay safe and it will stay legal.

Not to be rude but i have a question :
What do you mean you hate seeing people split lanes when it is not needed
What makes you the one to determine when it is needed or not
Not trying to start a fight i just dont get how people think it is their
decision on such things. It shouldn't affect you one way or the other
if someone splits lanes as long as they are not doing it in an unsafe manner
and the article defines what is the proper way to do it so i fail to see the problem
I live in Cali and do it everyday, but only at slow speeds or stopped traffic... And yes, many drivers don't know it's legal, and will actually try to block you! Just gotta play it safe and only split when it's necessary, like getting out of LA traffic jams.

You still see other riders lane splitting at 80mph on the freeway though. It's not worth the risk to me.

-THE DON
Try not to do it when cars arent stopped and bumper to bumper during ruah hour.

I've seen way too many jerks cut out in front even with a half-car space available in the next lane.

I gave a specific example. Are you one that feels like it is ok to do what I was talking about? 90+ when people aren't expecting you is an unsafe manner. If I move slightly in my lane traveling at that speed will send you flying. Making lane splitting illegal is a constant debate because people abuse it by doing it while speeding and splitting the lanes at a much faster speed then the flow of traffic. There is a reason it is illegal in most states. I know there are times when it is a matter of opinion, but I am talking about the times when it is absolutely absurd. I just listed what I personally feel comfortable with. When freeway traffic is going 35+ I do not split lanes, but I see nothing wrong with others doing it up to the speed limit.

Thanks for the info, always good to know! By any chance are you on r/motorcycles ;)
The website http://hellforleathermagazine.com (a great site about riding motorcycles by the way) recently posted a video about lane splitting, generated a ton of controversy from both side. Food for thought.

It's illegal because we allow a few retards to control the majority.

Take the gun control issue. if 5 people out of 1,000,000 commit a crime with a weapon, people wanna ban that weapon even though 999,995 people were not doing any harm.

You get 5 retards that fly through traffic at 90+ on a 45MPH road doing lane splitting, wreck and kill each other, they ban it and tell the other 999,995 it's illegal and not safe.

Welcome to America where nobody takes responsibility for themselves so everybody pays.
Thanks for the info, always good to know! By any chance are you on r/motorcycles ;)
