Dealer now wants to charge me to fit rack

i want to know your thoughts on this. this morning i dropped my bike off to get its 1000kays service and get the ventura rack fitted. i ordered the rack when i ordered the bike and this morning they told me it would cost $50 to get it fitted. i think thats pretty rude seeing though its part of the sale of a new motorcycle and when i have bought a new car had accessories fitted with no labour charge, plus the fact i let the bike sit at their premises for an extra week after waiting almost 5 weeks for it to arrive in the first place.

whats your thoughts?

the fact of the matter is that dealers only love us when we buy our bikes, after that its all about the money...
It's always about the money!

Can't do it yourself?
yes i can fit it myself, thats not the point. i have also ordered a power commander 5 with the bike they charged me $600 for it, so are they going to want to charge me again when it arrived to fit it.

im not impressed with the dealer
my point is, when i buy a brand new car i get all accessories fitted with zero labour, so why is this dealer hell bent on trying to charge for something that was ordered as part of the bike, not once did they tell me it would be an extra charge for it, not even on the paperwork i signed.

stealership i think so
That's ridiculous, have a chat with the manager? bring those points up to him? sounds like bull
Unless you negotiated the install in the price, or had the bike delivered like that, all inclusive, I'd expect to pay. Bikes aren't cars.

I've bought dozens of bikes, most off road, and I leave my excellent dealership with a bike and a bunch of stuff for it, skid plates, hand guards, seats, grips, whatever. They never offered to install any of it and I never thought to ask as it would cost me $ in labor.

My point about diy, then you know it is correct. Not bolted on by a cel phone distracted 17 year old making under minimum wage. Better to have it done right by someone who cares, namely you.

I'd think they will hit you for at least an hour, probably 2 for the tuner install.

your dead right. thats why i waited an extra week to leave bike at dealers to get the rack fitted, all parts were supposed to be fitted before i picked the damn thing up.the bike is supposed to be delivered with all my extra parts fitted its part of the deal.
but after waiting 5 weeks i have had enough waiting.

everything is supposed to be fitted to the bike, its parts of the deal.not my fault the dealer doesnt have the parts in stock and has to order them in.

looks like buying 4 motorcycles and spending well over 40 grand with them doesnt matter at all in 17 years.
Cruizin,
Def push it with the manager.

Good luck.

I missed that I guess?

Talk to the manager, if it was negotiated it is a done dealio. Good luck, I bet they make it right.

thats what i thought so too. so i will be taking it up with the manager this afternoon, im sure i was getting ripped off.

thanks guys
i just rang the dealer, and spoke to the manager. he said he will sort it out. i mentioned that not once did the salesman tell me that there would be a charge for fitting *ANYTHING* to my bike, there is *NOTHING* written about being charged labour for accessories on my sales receipt and my bike was *SUPPOSED* to be delivered with p/c 5 . i also mentioned the fact this is my 4th bike i have bought from them and he said he would take care of it with the salesman and the service department.

i have also had an email from the dealer ship that they have only just today ordered the p/c5 from the Australian distributor including the extra plug for the 02 sensor.

*sigh* wont get to pick the bike up till the morning. damn it! busy at work

the service deaprtment says i owed them $148.50 for the service and fitting the rack.
they can keep their $48.50 for fitting the rack, i agreed in the sale of the bike to pay $100 for the 1st serivce, thats labour only, not parts, parts are free.
heres a copy of an email i got from the dealer this afternoon, this is from their spare parts manager

===========================================

ive contacted serco just now about this, it seems they have had the
power commanders for a few weeks now but have not been able to sell them
due to not having the correct 02 sensor eliminator, they also told me
that they only found out the correct 02 sensor less than 10 days ago and
had to get them in I believe, sorry about the confusion , im glad
its cleared up now though, I have 2 of each on the way as of today

===========================================

Serco is the Australian distributor for power commander, i emailed them myself yesterday to find out what the heck is going on with my pc5 i ordered 6 weeks ago thru local dealer who couldnt tell me what was going on and when it would be arriving

collected bike this morning.showed the service manager that on my signed sales contract the parts that are to be fitted to my new bike and *NO WHERE* does it state im to be charged labour for *ANY* parts to be fitted.

They apologized and wiped the fee of the fitting of the rack.

now lets see what happens when to power commander 5 turns up cos i told him i will be back when it arrives and you can fit it as well and again i wont be paying labour as its part of the sale of my new bike.

i will keep you all posted
Hopefully all goes through ok :+)
unfortunately you paid 600 for the pc5....biohazard has them for 285...which means he still makes a cut at the price of 285.

meaning there is no way the dealer is making less than 315 off of you buying that from them, so IMO you've already been charged for 3 hours of labor @ 100/hr

not to mention, if you have engine issues down the line, kawasaki finds out you had it tuned and bam your warranty is voided. whereas if you install yourself, engine screws up, take it off and bring it in and they have no clue.
Unless that 600 includes full dyno tuning ?
Wow, we have heard some AU Dealers really jack the locals. But that is crazy. Over here in the U.S. they are about 1/2 that price. Guess, that explains why we sell so many to AU customers. Even with a little shipping they are saving a few hundred $$$

.
I can't believe you paid $600 for a Power Commander.

Dealer Scam at its finest right there.
Welcome to Australia. I thought it was bad when I was building gaming PCs, then I got into the bike scene. Parts are easy enough to buy online as they're a standard item, gear on the other hand sucks balls. As a new rider I had no idea what sizes I needed or what would be most comfortable for me, ended up paying probably twice what I would have if I had it send over from the States.
