Hi guys and gals!

I'm a new member to the forums and would like to share my story of coming of the bike.

I am new to riding. Had only been riding for just over a month before i came off (definitely an eye opener). Just got the bike's first service done a few days earlier so i was really opening the throttle up (to tempting not to). Was on a ride through the hills in Adelaide, Australia, and decided to take a different route to what i had previously been doing. I was have a great ride and really got my confidence level up, and of course, was riding too hard for my abilities. I was on my way back up this new road I had found, and was pushing quite hard, and before I knew it, i was on the road in the blink of an eye.

Definitely learnt my lesson! And opened my eyes up to how easy it is to come off. But, as a result of my ignorance, my bike copped it too

By the looks of it u got a lowsider? ( bike slid away from under you ) Did u ride over gravel or sand in a corner?

maybe a bit offtopic : how good are the stock tires? are they grippy? hard? soft?

Sorry to hear about your loss Glad you made it out OK

I'm hearing from others that the stock tires are not exactly grippy enough. I pick up my bike at the dealer in another hour so I have not seen them myself yet. It may be worth replacing the stock tires if you plan to do any serious cornering.

I went for an aggressive ride in some twisties to test the tires. They seem fine. Could have been gravel, sand, wet leaves, braking in the corner, any number of things. The 300 corners very well. It acts a little top heavy however. You notice this moving it around in the garage and also when moving very slowly, so new riders need to be careful with the slow speed turns until they get their balance down. As soon as you are moving past about 10mph though it plants itself to the road very well.

Yeah the main thing is I was ok after. Minor bruises but the gear did its job well! Spirits still very much high! I wanted to get on the bike the next day.

I'm not really sure what went wrong. It's very easy to blame the road conditions etc, but i was obviously doing something wrong, I just don't know what that was. The bike didn't lowside. It was more of a highside, as I sort of got thrown off the bike. But what baffles me is it wasn't mid corner, it was almost out of the corner. And it didn't feel like the rear stepped out on me then caught traction again (i don't even think the bike has enough power for that??). It was like i turned too sharply and the bike tipped over to it's right and I came off. The was on a left hand corner by the way.

My theory is that I either didn't see some dirt/loose gravel on the road, or an uneven surface that caused me to loose balance. I wasn't even looking at the road conditions s i can't really complain lol

But nevertheless the repairs have been started on the bike. Should get it back hopefully next week or the week after. For anyone who is interested, it was quoted as $4000 worth of damage! Which i don't understand, as there is still another side of the bike and an engine, transmission, electronics, breaks forks blah blah blah.. They didn't ride it off though, so i'm pleased Don't have to run in an engine again.

As for the tires, they feel pretty solid to me. I have no experience on I bike so i honestly wouldn't know what is 'good grip'. But they never gave me any nasty surprises and I felt very confident through the twisties on them.

Kawasaki frame sliders would've been sitting right where that big scrape is on the main fairing. They prob would've saved the day

Yeah i thought about that afterwards haha Definitely considering getting them now. I would rather get some no cut ones when they get released though.. Decisions decisions..

what were the damages done and why are they charging that much.

Pictures are on the previous page.

- The tail got cracked and ground down
- Rear and front indicators scratched (front one wouldn't would turn on but not blink)
- Lots of scratches on right fairing and the right top side of the bike. Got a nice crack too.
- Front rim got a good scratch on it
- Rear brake lever ground down
- The steering felt really 'off' too. Not sure what was the cause. But I wouldn't have got back on it cause it felt so unsafe.
- The front brake was also binding on the disk. Could feel it when walking the bike.

I only had to pay $800 to my insurance company to get it fixed so im not that fussed. But if I was paying for it myself I would be asking why its $4000 worth of damages. Apparently the muffler itself is worth $1000.. Ridiculous. But, like i said, i'm not paying so doesn't bother me

you are paying.. and to me $800 is a big amount, even for excess i think it seems more than what insurance companies ask for normally?. im curious only because my bike needs repair also, very similar damages on mine except just the muffler and fairings. i posted pictures here you can have a look. im still using the bike though, it runs normal.

Well, yeah i am paying, but i would rather pay 800 than 4000. And i leave money in the bank account just in case i need to pay excess on things like the car and bike.. So since it's all budgeted for, i'm not pulling my hair out or anything. My protective gear was also covered up to 1000 so i'm getting a new helmet, jacket and jeans. So really, it hasn't worked out too bad..

Yeah i seen your pictures on another thread. Sorry to hear bout that mate. It really sucks. In your case i would just keep riding because it's only cosmetic damage. And you never know, it could happen again. So it's probably better to leave it just in case.

But the main thing is we are both okay
