I'd recommend full length boots. Define walk (where and how long)? I have walked in my boots (at the park, in the mall etc.) but never gone trail hiking in them :D

My boots - Dainese TRQ Tour Gore-Tex.

That said...maybe someone here with riding shoe experience can chime in.

I'm commuting with A* Smx-1. Easy to slip on and off. Comfortable and has plenty of protection.

Only downside is it doesn't have as much ankle protection as a race boot. But you gain a lot in comfort and daily usability.

I don't have a pair, but I'm looking to get a pair for quick trips in town and to meet friends for coffee and a movie. I normally wear full race gear when I ride, but I want to put together some slightly more casual gear that I could wear sitting in a movie theater, and these are the shoes I'm getting. I'm just waiting for them to get them in my size.

No need to apologize :D

Seems like you got a good amount of help from other members...especially the basketball capable ones. But, there's going to be a trade off in protection the more it starts to look and move like an everyday shoe. Another possibility is to carry around/leave at work some casual shoes you can change into.

I was looking at the Puma Flat v2 Boots, but they don't have the color and size I want right now.

Yes the back and chest protector go under my race suit, this is what I have http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-thorax-wave-pro

There are also chest and back protectors that go into pockets of specific jackets, that's what I'm looking to get so I can go out into the world without looking like Voltron ;)
