Blinker ?

3934 Views 22 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  DavyBlack
So I rode around my neighborhood for about 45 minutes today and every time I used my blinker on a turn I forgot to turn it off. Is there a way to make it beep since its hard to see in the sunlight.

I doubt you'd hear it. A way i remember us I just keep my thumb on it til I turn it off.

Probably not a very cheap way, plus it would have to be fairly loud and probably annoy the piss out of you. I do it sometimes as well, just try to be more concious of what the bike is doing. Once riding is second nature, you'll be able to focus a little more on the little things.
There was a guy in my old VTX forum that made a beeper for the blinkers, i'll see if I can find his web site.
Found this on a site for kawasaki's

Or go here to build your own?

This is the guy that builds the one for the VTX, you could ask him via email about yours he is a nice guy.

There's a very easy mod you can do to solve this, and best of all, it's free...

Get in the habit of turning it off.

It really doesn't take long. Next time you ride, make the conscious decision to turn it off every time you complete a turn. Say to yourself "I have completed my turn, now I am turning off my signal". Keep doing so until it becomes instinctive.

Still have this issue every once in a while myself. My V-Star 1100 has auto canceling so I never worried too much about it till now. You would think it would become standard equipment now a days.

the reason it doesnt is cos its something else that can go wrong and something else to add to the price to make it higher.the market the 300 is in, the bikes are built to a price, so you need to cut as many corners as you can to keep the price down
OP, you'll look back at this thread a few weeks later and laugh because you would have learned to automatically turn it off
don't forget you can push it in to turn it off. until i learned that i always forgot about it or tried to push it towards the middle to make it turn off and would just activate the other side of the blinker
I was taught to get in the habit of turning it off as you're doing your first gear change after completing the turn. It then becomes second nature pretty quickly.
Like the earlier post here, you get into the habit of pressing the turn signal cancel button in all the time that will be doing automatically. You will look back at this thread as being funny you asked. Hell, I push mine cancel button so much without thinking that even when I running hard through a nice set of twisties I find myself hitting the darn thing after every hard turn :)
For the first week I would forget to turn mine off. But I just kept running around the neighborhood and "practicing" everything, including signals, full stops, etc. (First bike).

After a while you just get used to it. I find myself automatically hitting the cancel switch after getting out of 1st gear, even if I'm still going through the turn (as it's pretty obvious that I'm turning at that point.) From there I still find myself pushing it in just to make sure it's not on once I fully complete my turn. 90% of the time it's already off before I make the conscious decision to turn it off because I made it a habit.
only takes a quick glance at your instrument cluster to see if its flashing, or better yet, dont look down, just press the button to cancel it
Just came back into a Kawi last week after being on a CBR 250, the lights on the panel are very dim compared to the Honda so the flashing turn signal light is rather difficult for me to see at a glance. (Same goes for the neutral light.)

That being said I've gotten into the habit of cancelling the turn signal with my thumb fairly regularly while I ride, even when I haven't been turning. It's that obsessive compulsive thing...
You might accidently hit the horn instead of the blinker button too until you get the instinct of where it is...that's always good for a laugh.

I've done that. It's funny when you're riding with someone else new and they keep doing it.

I actually do the opposite and hit my turn signal when I'm trying to honk at someone who is merging into me.

Today was the first time I've ever gotten it right and hit the horn in time to keep from getting hit, I was so proud of myself! Only took a year of riding...
I accidentally bleeped the horn a little bit when terminating the turn signal. I hit the button in but at the edge and my thumb slipped off and tagged the horn real quick. Just so happened the guy in front was waiting to the conducted through the intersection, but still felt like an ass for messing that one up though.
In all seriousness. I do not use my turn signals. Nor do would it matter much if I did. I assume no one can see me. So I make damn sure no one will become a danger to me.

If they think I am rude because I passed them and got in front of them without signaling- that is their problem. But no one car is ever around me long enough to become a problem. Sucks to be in a cage.

If you are driving a cage- don't expect to get anywhere quickly. Just sip your drank, pick a radio station and chill. Cause you gon' be there for a while.
