Blinker Not Functioning

5639 Views 18 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  DarkNinja52
So today I was inspecting my bike and noticed that my right side blinkers are no longer functioning properly.

The left side flashes like normal - both front and back.

The right side front comes on and stays solid, while the back never comes on at all.

I haven't touched anything at all. No wiring, etc. Only thing I've opened up is the rear seat.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Forgot to mention - The right icon on the dash remains solid.

Id take it to the dealer make them fix it.
I know on my car it would happen if one of those side bulbs was out and the blinker icon the dash would flash fast

The icon on the dash remains solid as well.
Should be covered by warranty if its anything serious. I had a problem with my bike when the blinkers wouldn't work at all.. It was the whole rear electrical assembly

Looks like I'll be bringing it in to the service dept. Don't have time to diagnose it myself.. Thanks!
I had this problem when i picked up the bike from the dealer, they looked into it, and it seemed fixed until about 2 weeks later and it happened again, only mine was the left blinker side. Same thing was happening though, my dash indicator would stay solid, my girlfriend tried moving the rear blinker when we would try to turn this on, and sure enough it would start to work again, it may just be a loose bulb in your right blinker, I installed a fender eliminator with new led signals so mine was fixed when doing the mod. hope it helps.
I would also say possibly a blown or non contacting bulb. That would be one of my first checks before I would take it to the dealer.

Good idea. I just checked the rear right side bulb.. it's in there tight and isn't blown. Grr.
OP, did you get this issue resolved and how? My left one is behaving in a similar fashion with the exception that the rear stays on solid while the front is blank. I've got an appointment booked with my dealer but they are busy and I'll have to wait until May 22nd. I practically ride daily and its a bother for me, knowing it doesn't work (safety and OCD stand point lol)

Thanks in advance,
David
When I was installing my Yoshi fender eliminator, I had to splice the turn signal wires. I didn't get the crimp right on one and so the connection was broken and my blinker behaved the same way. It stayed lit solid on my control panel and didn't blink. The front turn light would stay on while the rear turn light did not come on at all.

I am not sure if this is your issue but the symptom is the same as as loose connection.

Too bad the fuse box is buried or it would easy to test the continuity.

Hopefully it is as simple as a loose wire.

If only one side is mulfunctioning, and your rear stays solid whilst the front doesnt come on at all..............there is something happening with the front bulb. Either blown or not contacting correctly.

The reason the indicators behave in this fashion is so the operator knows that they have a blown bulb, cars do the same thing........ sometimes flashing fast to indicate a blown bulb, sometimes staying solid to indicate a blown bulb.

This is terrible but I can't remember what the dealership said when I took it to them. It is resolved, however sometimes it behaves that way at startup only to start working properly once I get going.. Bizarre, I know. Wish I could help more! :/

Good to know. I think I'll try swapping the front bulbs around and see how that goes

Still happens eh? That kind of sucks but at least, its temporary and works when you need it. Appreciate you taking the time to respond and provide an update. Been searching the forum and Google, but most folks who have a similar issue were the result of installing an FE kit
I had this problem as well after someone hit the bike while parked.

I just had to bend it around until it worked again. You hear a snap (makes it sound like you just broke it), but then suddenly it works again.

That was about 7K miles ago, so I assume that fixed the problem permanently.
Also happened to me after a few months. Dealer said the wire wasn't grounded. No issues since then.

Yeah, I brought it into the dealer and they informed me it was a problem with the ground wire. Issue has been resolved and I'm glad to have it working again :D

My only gripe, technician broke one of the tabs on the fairing when they re-installed everything
that's so funny, this just happened to me on may 27th. I was going to post something about it here, but found the same problem. im stil trying to get a contact with my mechanic to figure this out.
Sounds like the circuit isn't being completed for some reason. Could be a lot of things but I would switch the left side bulbs to the right side (front and back) and see if anything changes. Also check the ground. I would imagine your relay is fine if at least one side works properly. Make sure that both sides aren't lighting up when you use just one side.
