I recently learn't from someone on here they use a different rating system.

USA (AKI) AUS (RON)

87 = 91
89 = 93
91 = 95
93 = 98
I was always jelouse of the Australians when I would ready 95/98 octane but now knowing its the same as our Canadian 91/93 it makes me feel better. Always thought we were getting left out.

I would swap my higher octane petrol (we used to have 100 too) in a heartbeat for the same prices that lot you pay for everything else in the North American market, petrol included.

I used to get 110 at the local airport for my hotrods.
Infineon raceway is near by and they have race fuel up to 116 for sale to the public.
While I'm sure this bike runs fine on 87 i would put premium in especially if your bike has a header and filter etc. The diff. is less than $2 a tank.
btw: I would never run race fuel in this bike just pointing out it is available to us.:D

I'm paying 1.44 per liter for Shell Vpower 91 octane. Which would be equivalent to your 95.

I run premium unleaded (95?) as this was suggested by my dealer when I bought it but it could be the fact I live in Darwin and its hot as hell but whether that makes a difference I don't know. I'm moving to Melbourne in September which is cold as hell so not sure if I'll need to swap?

As Cruizin is in Townsville which is the same climate as Darwin I guess 91 would be fine in Darwin too.

The premium unleaded has worked fine for me thus far.

just remember the bike will run anything 91 and upwards
the bike was tuned for 91 so anything more would not yeild any performance gains unless the ecu can adjust the timings to suit
once my PC5 comes i will have it tune for 95 -
at the moment i switch between 95/98 depending on price and when i pour. there is no difference in them on this bike. im pretty sure when i got the bike it had 91. you might get alittle more mileage for going higher octane fuels

Even with an ECU tuner, you're still not really going to get the full benefit of a higher octane fuel since you can't change the compression of the engine to take advantage of the higher octane.
that is true but i'll get more out of it then running 91 alone without a tune :)

There's another thread about fuel for this bike. The bottom line is the bike is designed for 87 octane. Higher octane for this engine is of no benefit. It doesn't clean better, give you better mileage, etc. Studies have been done on this and it's been determined that higher octane fuels are wasted in vehicles that do not require it.

The octane needed for an engine is related to the compression ratio of that engine. The 300 is designed to compress and ignite fuel that has 87 octane where a high performance engine might need fuel with 91 octane in order to combust properly. It all has to do with how oil is refined and how much pressure is needed to ignite the fuel.

All fuels sold for highway use contain detergents by law. High octane fuels do not out perform lower octane fuels in this area.

There are several studies from the EPA and FTC on this topic.

Of course... People will still put premium in because its labeled premium and they think it's better. Premium fuel isn't better... It's just different.

I almost always go with Shell 87. The two Shell stations near my house charge almost 25-30 cents more than the one on my way to work, so I try to fill up at that one. Not that the price difference makes much of a difference, just out of principle. Makes a difference when I fill the 20 gallon tank on my car though.

I think Shell has the best gas.

Chevron fuel's additive Techron is the only additive proven to clean engines and remove deposits. All fuel sold in the US contain a standard amount of detergent as required by law. All fuel delivered to each company is exactly the same from the refinery so the fuel you get at 7-11 is the same as Shell and Chevron, etc. The difference is what happens to the fuel when it's delivered from the refinery and before it hits the station.

Also, fillers can be added to fuel to make it go further. Some fuels can have 25% or more in fillers. Watch out for Safeway gas stations.

Buying gas at a no-name station doesn't mean it's bad fuel because the fuel is usually purchased from one of the name brand suppliers.

It's a crap shoot. I'd probably stay away from the places that don't appear to take care of their equipment. You're more likely to have problems as a result of poorly filtered fuel or other crud in their holding tanks.

I'd stay away from Costco as well. I have a friend that works for Costco. She said they purchase from whoever has the best deal of the day.

I'd also stay away from BP only because they like to crap on the environment and take no responsibility. That'd be Exxon too. Well crap... That's just about every oil company. IMO

I said the exact same thing in the other fuel thread a while ago lol. Some of the high octane users thought I was crazy or lost it. If Cdiz says the same thing, then maybe there is some inkling of truth to it.

Cdiz make good points and alot of our guys here and local customers are fans of Chevron fuel... 87 up to 93 octane.
Couple of new QT brand stores have just opened recently and not sure what brand of gas they carry, but it seems to be good stuff and runs out well in the bikes, truck and employee cars also.

Biggest thing we look for, especially when traveling, is clean and tidy pumps & surrounding area and lots of customers in and out.

Bottom line is run what makes you and your wallet feel warm and fuzzy. We know of several bikes seem to run better on premium while some others it doesn't seem to matter. And the Dollar or so difference in fill ups on most bikes, our guys don't lose sleep over it.

I spend $10 to fill my bike up with premium fuel and I haven't had a single problem since I bought it.

this is why i have a log book so i can see whats going on & prove if needed that premium is a waste of money.
