I would just charge and go unless it was a long trip.

This. My boyfriend just has a universal mount and just sets his cell phone there to use the gps (it's the note 2, it's huge) and music. However, if the epic cross-country adventure ever happens we'll probably use the bikes power.

There are also those little chargeable, portable bricks you can attach to it as well. So there are a multitude of options.

Oh and protective gear like otter box. Just in case you accidentally hit the release button on the highway like some people I know...

Mounted a GPs this morning (garmin nuvi40) Vehicle Auto part Tachometer Odometer Gauge
with the standard suction cup, had to stick it on the fuel gauge as the damn windshield was to curved *duh* only tried it out on a 10min ride. Stuck well, pretty clear in the sun for a $80 unit lol will buy some 3M stuff to stick it on the dash with after work. No complaints or drops so far!

I zip tied mine where the bars come together in the center, I'm thinking about making a mount that would fit there.
I'll hold it there and take a pic, gimme ten minutes
and no it doesn't hit the tank in a turn, but I gotta wait for the risers to come in first

I'd be interested in finding out how to wire up a 12v plug (I have a spare marine grade one) and mounting it to the cowling near the guages.

Did you wire it direct to the battery or patch it in somewhere along the light wire harness? Did you stick in a relay? Did you take pics of the install? LOL, too many questions?

ok here is the deal
if u place it about midway in the top fairing as i have
you can route the cables through the body directly to the
battery
i got the all weather one from cycle gear it is now on sale for 9.99
and it kicks ass
it will even charge my google nexus 7 which uses a 2 amp draw
i did not take pics but i am about to add another to the left side
of the bike i will do pics of that if you guys want

So how much "added" power draw do you think the 300 can handle? Two things charging at once? like gps and phone? or say led light strips and gps? Any amp wizards out there? I had to talk to a friend of mine when I wired in a switchable relay to power an added power box to a vtx1300, it worked well, I actually had fog lights, a couple of show light strips and an ext. plug for running my gps.

well i think it can def handle two things at once. Esp since i would rarely be using two at once but i want the availability. I have seen people run alot more on a 250 including led
so i am sure a gps and phone would be easy
