HI all,

so on a whim i picked up the 5" rear rim from a company called Layz motors. havent seen much on it but it will allow me to run a 160 rear tire. (i wasnt a fan of trying to stuff that tire on the oem width rim) so i now have to decide on tires and was looking for some help/advice

this mod was purely for looks. i will be changing my front tire to match. so what sizes should i go with? im guessing 160/60/17 for the rear, but what about front? i will be taking a bunch of pics once i get it installed. i dont want to screw up the speedo too bad with the tiresize being off too much.

thanks for all the help.

I'm interested in the build quality of this. Is it steel? Aluminium? Nice welds? And most important, will it explode at high speeds?

Can't wait to see this on the bike. Before and after pics please.

there are a few vids on youtube about the wheel

i didnt really look at it yet, just a quick glance. but it looked like it was a pretty decent quality. nothing questionable stood out about it at all. ill shoot a few pics of it when i get a chance, with closeups. let me know if you want specific pics and ill take them for you.

Hello,
May I ask how much you paid for it? I want to order one to but im in California dont know how much total would be. I installed 120/60 160/60 17 conti motion on mine everything is stock in rim size. Haven't noticed any down effects well I ride my ninja everyday on freeway for work. Max speed I got so far is 114mph.

My question is will the 5" rim fit with the swing arm? People have used 120/160 tires on the 300. If your after the look it should be fine. Don't expect great handling though.
from what i was told it should fit no problem. we shall see:grin2:

im not too concerned about amazing handling, its mainly a commuter, and i dont ride it that often. if it sucks i can always just swap my stock wheel back on.

Got the tire mounted to the rim today. rim looks like its pretty great quality. no glaring issues from what i could tell. tech said it was a bear to get the tires bead to seat because of the powdercoat, but good to go. ill shoot a couple pics tonight and post them up when i get home with it next to the bike with the stock setup mounted. just the tire on the wheel looks killer. went with the Bridgestone Battleax Hypersport S21 motorcycle superstore got it to my door in a day for 120.99 shipped

Here's a update on my ninja rear rim from LazyMotor 5" Equinox rim. The service tech said it leans faster. It sure looks better I use it for commuting for work which is 85 miles round trip daily. 405 fwy dont have much to lean on. I did a ton of research here on forum and everyone has good and bad though about it. Hope this helps who ever want to change that stock rim and tyre.

Awesome looks great bud. mine is still sitting on my workbench with the tire on it. waiting on some wheel stickers, and a 40t rear sprocket to show up.

did your tech put the washers between the rear sprocket and wheel?

I understand this is just a cosmetic mod for you, but the disturbing thing is the increase in weight. The oem wheel is one of the heaviest wheels made and this rim is worse.

As an example the 4" oem rear wheel on my 300 weighed about 2.5 lbs more that the oem 5.5" rim on my 675. If I were going to replace the wheels on a 300, I'd do it right and get quality wheels that are lighter, like Galespeed or Marchesini. Those wheels from Layz are heavy turds. Going to be a harsh ride.

Sorry, this is nothing you want to hear, but unsprung weight on the 300 is its largest performance issue.

You might be right on increase weight. But I have done my research and this is what I want for my style of riding. I don't lean like most expert riders. I only use it for work and doing small errands. I spend $25 on gas a week for work. Compare to my jeep, tahoe, and truck can't complain.
