As mentioned above, definitely sounds like a fuel or air delivery issue. Definitely check all mentioned above.
A few other thoughts:
Does the ECU have a limp mode if it detects errors? (Though I expect a CEL lit if this was the case).
Might it have something to do with the secondary (ECU controlled) throttle butterfly?
