Anyway, I rarely if ever lane split, and by law in NSW lane splitting is illegal over 30km/h so I do not do that ever. Riding the daily commute to work in Sydney has a lot of traffic and having the ability to fold my mirrors in massively helps in the ever ending task of filtering to the front of the queue at the lights. I dont know why most of the roads so are damn tight in sydney but I can get through gaps only bicylcle riders can get through. Alot of Mini SUVs where I come from and all the big bikes and scooters cannot make it through where I can hit any gap.. with the mirrors folded in. When I get to the front I unfold them.. I only ever split in the rarest of circumstances when im close to the front and I have to punch through half a car. Riding and changing lanes without the mirrors folded in is dangerous and I would not do it.. Finally for the unexpected harsh response if you had stated you were replying in the interest of safety and not promoting bad behavior you would not have come off so abrasive and I would have not taken it so harshly.  Wait till TRUMP replies.

As for fender eliminators. The eliminators themselves aren't illegal. It's normally the distance between the turn signals and the non use of reflectors that are illegal. For example, the state that I live in: - doesn't care how loud you are. - requires us to have one mirror - passenger seat/rear set not required (unless carrying a passenger) - handlebars below shoulder height. So if you ride your bike, it may be legal. But if I ride your bike, it may be illegal if I have an extra short torso. - turn signals are not required - red reflectors required at the rear of the bike - annual safety inspections not required It's just really confusing as each state have their own motorcycle laws. So, if you ride in another state, you have to do your due diligence and research the local laws for that state. It just gets confusing after a while....especially when you are taking a road trip and don't want to break any local laws. I think some laws are just ridiculous and are there just so that the police has "probable cause" to pull you over. As an example, in New Jersey, all helmets must have 4 inches of reflective tape on each side of the helmet. Now.....besides me, I haven't seen another rider that has reflective tape on their helmet! So....if you're acting like a jerk, but aren't breaking any laws, an officer can easily pull you over to poke around using no reflective tape on helmet as probable cause to pull you over. |
