First oil change; Synthetic or not? Which Brand?

I was at lordco getting oil and a filter and I didn't really look into oils, I just knew that the factory recommends 10w-40. The only 10w-40 they had was royal purple which I heard was a good brand.

I just read on another thread that you shouldn't run synthetic till its broken in, and I also read that I should be sticking to motorcycle oils not car oils. Should I really go return the oil I just bought?

Eh. I personally like the Mobil 1 oil. This last time I went with Rotelle t6 I believe. I will be going back to Mobil 1 next change.

The Rotelle you can get at Walmart. The Mobil 1 at auto zone. Or checker in the motorcycle oil section

The oil for the 300 should not say "energy conserving" or "high mileage". Those are terms for additives that can cause the clutch to slip. What you want to see is JASO MA on the oil jug. That will be on your motorcycle oils. It is also on Rotella T6 which is what I use. JASO MA means it is safe for motorcycle clutches. Lots of new bikes come with full synthetic oil, so I wouldn't worry about breaking in the bike before switching. Many Triumph motorcycles and almost everything Aprilia makes comes with full synthetic from the factory...the RSV4 and Tuono V4 for example...along with Vespa scooters. They come with AGIP 5W40 and they break in just fine. I think the recommendation to not use synthetic early may be a little outdated because of this, but who knows. I always go with full synthetic the first oil change which in my case was 50 miles due to a hard break-in. I like Mobile 1 too, and haven't used Royal Purple. I go with Rotella T6 cause it is cheap and very good far as I can tell. $21 a gallon at Walmart. Rotella T6 is not 10W40 though. It is 5W40.

how many kilometers on the bike? i did my oil change at 1000 kilometers and went to synthetic straight up, i normally run Mobil 1 racing 4T & i highly recommend it but just for something different i thought i would try Silkolene Comp 4

i know a few guys who swear by it in their sports bikes and it is a little less expensive then Mobil 1 Racing 4T

Royal Purple (Highly Recommended)

I did close to 4000 Miles to make sure that the rings and top end was really seated and then went to Royal Purple 10w 40. My bike runs really smooth and shifts really by the numbers. I have ran this product for years and it is PROVEN. They did Dyno test with this and it can increase horsepower by 2 to 10 Hp. A lot of professional racers really go with this product. Just thought I would share this.

Thanks

Not saying that you are wrong but how the hell can oil give you 2 to 10 hp increase?

The theory behind it is that it lubricates so well that you gain power that was lost due to parasitic friction.
