Ninja Upkeep/Maintenance

Hi Everyone,

Quick question I have all my fairings off because I had to get to the dash and want to do what I can to the bike before putting them back on. It is a 2013 ABS with about 7,000 miles. I changed the oil at 6,000. I bought the bike at 6,000 miles so let's assume the previous owner didn't do anything before that except change the oil.

So far I'm going to wipe it down, clean the chain, and check the air filter. Any other suggestions?

I am a carpenter/handyman so I have tools to do basically anything minor.

Thanks in advance!

A dealer would probably find several hundred dollars worth of maintenance, but I plan to do just what you're doing. The manual calls for several things at 7600 miles...valve check and spark plug check/change too in addition to checking fluids, throttle, idle, clutch, brake pad check, check bolts for tightness. I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This has probably been covered, but is there a general mileage amount to check for things like this (not really going off the manual). Cars the major checks/exchanges are around 50k. Would bikes be 5k? 10k?

I'm at 12k with two seasons of track miles. I do chain and oil service regularly and coolant and brake services as needed. For the first time I will do valve clearance and throttle body sync for peace of mind.

I would make sure oil filter, oil drain bolt, caliper, axle, handle bar, mirror, rearset bolts are nice and snug.

Also check battery for corrosion.

i do oil changes and air filter cleanings every 5k. i check the brakes randomly by just looking at them through the caliper. I change the coolant in my bikes about every 20k miles, but that's just cuz i want to. i'm sure the coolant can wait to 30k or maybe even longer. I'm gonna do the valve inspections every 15k, even though the manual says 7500. i also change the brake fluid once every year or 2 or when it looks really dirty; if it were to overheat then i'd change it asap.

i'm almost at 12k miles on mine, btw.
