The priming sound you hear is the fuel pump running. It runs constantly when the engine is running.
It's possible a little water got into the tank. Water is more dense than fuel so it will go to the bottom. It may have worked it way through the system and fixed itself.
It could have been electrical as well. Without it continuing to happen there's no real telling.
