Call the dealer and make them come get it, tell them it's not safe to drive and needs to be checked out now!! Have you wrecked it at all?

Sounds like an electrical interlock issue. Get it to the dealer.

Except that the clutch switch has nothing to do with the neutral light...

There is a neutral switch which may not be closing. I'll have to print out the diagram tomorrow, I can't read it too well on my computer.

Doing some quick digging around in the service manual there are a few things that could be happening. If electrical, you have a malfunctioning meter unit or you have a short in the neutral light circuit or a short in the neutral switch circuit. If mechanical, you have a partial and faulty engagement of the neutral switch on the cam lobe on the transmission shaft. Basically the switch that interacts with the lobe is stuck or you have a short in the switch itself. Electrical gremlins (we called them "queertrons" sometimes,) are very common in a manufactured machine. Especially since much of the electrical portion is done by hand and any number of things can go wrong during production. Get it to a mechanic that's NOT the last guy and have them troubleshoot it. Most mechanics absolutely suck doing electrical faults and they are more a logic issue than an old fashioned mechanical issue.

Duggu,

Can you clarify - you can start the bike in gear without the clutch lever pulled in or the neutral light is on no matter if you are in gear or in neutral?

How many specific issues do you have?

Dave
