Turn Signal Lamp Bulb replacement

To start, I experienced a rear turn signal bulb being burned out due to a minor wreck. When to my amazement of trying to get a replacement, I found out this bulb is one of the rarest made bulbs, and currently sold out most everywhere in the United States.

Even a guru site www.donsbulbs.com CLICK HERE FOR BULB PAGE lists this as rare and out of stock. It seems that Russia is the only ones to have these, maybe. By the time you pay shipping (if applicable) it would not be cost effective towards the alternatives.

1. For a quick fix... buy a 1156 bulb from anywhere in the US and file off one of the side posts. (matching 12v and 10w... and do not forget to check for clearance if buying a larger bulb lens)

2. Change to a LED one. Look up BAU15S bases LED versions. Look to match the voltage 12v, get as close but not over on the wattage 10w, and as close to amperage 0.833 as possible with not going over.
(I have not switched over as of yet to LED's, so any examples I would give would be just a guess to resolve flasher issues.)

3. Change the BAU15S socket to a BA15S socket which will accept a 1156 amber bulb. Just remember to match the 10 watts... 21 watts will fry your system/wires.

4. Change over to a LED Tail Integrator, again, match the volts, wattage, and amperage as close as possible to resolve any flasher or signal/brake issues.

5. Wait for Philips and Kawasaki to eventually get 11,000 in mid next month (August 2013). And Philips exact words were "Don't hold your breath" when referring to the 11k order that Kawasaki has in place with them and another 6k on back order.

Now I did find a replacement from another manufacturer/dealership. (exact same bulb and just as rare.) Kawasaki is not the only one out there to use this turn signal bulb in some of their models. Triumph, Vespa, Piaggio, and even some car manufacturers us this style base... but look closely or ask if it is 10 watt or 21 watt and if the bulbs are clear or amber. And you might even be able to find this at some lawn mower shops. These bulbs are out there, just very rare, and in a variety of applications. (I read some riding lawn mowers have these as running lights).

A very nice Triumph/Kawasaki dealership near by has a few in stock (5 left after I bought one). $4.26 each. Part number T2705317 . I do not know the part numbers from the other dealers. Your best bet is to just describe it or take it in so they can match it. Again, do not accept a 1156 style base or 21 watt.

So with all this said. I can't imagine why such a rare bulb base combined with a even less common wattage "amber" lens bulb would be in so many applications. Thankfully there are alternative solutions.

Now I did find some on ebay for sale... if your willing to pay a premium price for the rarity.... $24.99 click here for ebay page

Please feel free to add information to this write up. Such as pig tail replacement of the socket for a more common 1156 bulb or if you find a LED bulb replacement that has few or no flasher problems or even the LED tail integrator replacement.

If a admin feels this article worthy, please pin this.

Please do not pm me about this issue due to that I have given all information I know already here. If I find out more, I will edit the article to include it. Finding these bulbs and information took me 6 hours of research and tons of phone calls/websites.

I should add that I have not pulled the front turn signal bulbs as of yet.

On the Kawasaki parts fiche it does dictate that they are different from the rear tail/turn signals.

I will add this information soon when I replace my damaged (scuffed) front turn signal. Mine is not burned out... so I do not know what differences there are, if any beside a slightly different part number and higher price.

4. Change over to a LED Tail Integrator, again, match the volts, wattage, and amperage as close as possible to resolve any flasher or signal/brake issues..
i changed my flasher relay a few days ago to a "tridon HD12PAC" you can disconnect a bulb & it still flashes at normal rate. i have not gone to LED nor do i have any intention to & will drive up to 6 x 25W bulbs so will work in the 300 nicely.picked it up from supercheapauto for $15

another thing you could do is with a dremel/rotary tool is possibly modify the stock bulb holder to allow a BA15S to fit, you would need to put a very fine cut in it. if you did this you can use the more common bulbs, or possibly cut the old bulb holder off the reflector & jb weld on a bulb holder for a BA15S

i went hunting on ebay & found these

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2PCS-115...Harness-/261206203326?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd11a5bbe

you could with a very fine cutting disc remove the old bulb holder from the reflector , join the wires from these to the stock wiring & JB weld the new holders to the reflectors & it will work a treat & buy bulbs from anywhere

have also checked the service manual, it only shows how to replace the rear bulbs not the front but i think it will be a safe bet to say the front/rear bulbs are the same

Would this bulb work? (I replaced the relay flasher with an LED one)
you might want to do some measuring first. it says it is 40 millimetres long, it might be too long to put the lens back on with these fitted.

Stumbled on this post while looking to see if I could get silvered bulbs* to replace the standard orange ones.

A UK company does sell the amber version: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/RMU589-RING-12v-10w-BAU15s-Amber-Flasher.html

I don't know whether Ring sell bulbs in the US though?

*I should says 'lamps' as I have been corrected by work colleagues at Philips a few times for calling them bulbs :)

you can on ebay buy a pack of 10 BAU15s bulbs for the 300 direct from USA. i did a few weeks ago and they arrived in a bubble wrap satchel all undamaged for under $20 AUD

search ebay on 331026307804 they fit the 300 like a glove. will last me a life time no doubt

Hey y'all newbie here. My winker/back tail lights are not working except for the front Headlights and stop light? The bulb has been blown so I need to replace the them.
I have here the RY10W 12V 10W BAU15s (12093) is what I need for my Kymco Agility 125. However, I found another almost the exact same except for the part no. (12093), instead it is ORAMS RY10W 12V 10W BAU15s (5009) which is for cars.

Could I use this same one?

have you tried going all LED where I'm 90% sure they are a 2 pin indicator relay, where once you match up the same LED bayonet's to fot your bike, then you just swap out the original oem incandescent indicator relay & just plug in either a $3 adjustable 2 pin LED indicator relay, or lash out on a plug & play 2 pin LED indicator relay for $5, where the flash timing of this new retro fitted system will be perfect, as well as a 30000 hour bulb life span, where either of these full retro fits will most likely out live the bike.

Hey! My head starts spinning with all that electrical bla bla bla! & i completed & passed 12 volt electrics final exams during my apprenticeship! What i would do? 1st match up the bulb bayonet sizes, & get same bayonet fit amber LED bulbs, then i would pull the indicator relay, which i think it's a 2 pin relay?, & either get a $3 strobe adjustable 2 pin LED indicator relay where you may have to solder up matching connectors, or just lash out $5 for a 2 pin plug & play LED indicator relay, where either way you'll end up with a reliable & correct flash timing indicator system. My way is working on 11 bikes by 3 bike manufacturers, where they all have different systems, but all are now LED correctly working, using this same procedure.
