Ninja 300 or Duke 390?

I'm looking at getting either the KTM Duke 390 or the Kawasaki 300 in the next couple of years (I always like to think ahead). Or may it be worth waiting to see if the new Yamaha R25/R3 is better. I'm 6ft and around 70kg (154lbs). I'm looking for an almost everyday bike that I can also have fun on during the weekends. I have a 2008 Yamaha R125 at the moment. I don't really want to be spending more than 5k if I go for a new, so it would probably be the non-ABS ninja (if I went for the ninja).

I would prefer a sport bike/fairings, however due to the ninja having a more sport touring position, opposed the a sport bike position it doesn't matter so much. I like how the ninja is a twin, opposed to a single, but the duke has upside down forks and has a better power to weight ratio as its lighter. More mpg is better obviously but if its about 10 difference then its not a deal breaker for me. Acceleration is more important to me as long as it can reach 90mph.

Thanks in advance, ask if you need any more info

Duke should be a bit of hooligan fun. That low torque seems like something i want to try out. Both bike have their merits and shortcomings.

The 300 being a great bike with many happy owners here should tell you a lot about how it will deliver.

Anyways, please fill in your location

Ninja 300 or Duke 390?

I've ridden KTM for years and I'd love to get my hands on a rc390. I originally decided to get a street bike last year because of the duke 390. When the 690 showed up without a 390 little brother I settled for the kawi. I'm not disappointed in my ninja. Actually it peaked my interest into sportbikes. Don't be surprised if the 390 doesn't end up coming to the us this year though (if you are in the us)

The Duke 390 was on my short list for a potential purchase until I did some research on the net. The one issue that stood out to me is a problem with low oil or oil leaks.

I researched the Ninja 300 prior to purchasing one. It's one of the best bikes in its' class. Yes, it has issues as well but no major issue(s) that dissuaded me from purchasing one.

I'd definitely take a look at the Yamaha R3 since you have tenative plans to purchase a bike around the time of its' release.

ATM i think the ninja is the best bike in class for someone that wants a fun to ride bike that can still make longer distances .. the cbr's just feel so boring on the road compared to the ninja and yet they're not much more comfortable on long distance trips ..
my advice would be a ninja with upgraded seat + aftermarket windscreen if you're a tall person

I commend looking into the r3 as well and it should be out next year. The r25 looks really well made and it has a gear indicator. We have to get a healtech mod which only shows the gear after the clutch is release so it feels like a bandaid to me.
