Since winter is finally over i can start driving again, but it got me thinking.. What rpm's / gear do you like to be at, and or what is the best for the bike..
I can imagine theres difference on cruising, and getting fast through trafic.
Example: 50km/h - 3'th gear about 6-7k rpm.. or 2'th gear and 8-9k rpm?
When I had my 300, I kept the stock exhaust because I fell in love with the sound around 7.5k RPM in 4th I believe. That's the magic RPM to where the stock exhaust puts off a slight inline four sound. It's not loud, but with a helmet on, it sounds awesome to the rider. I was ALWAYS between 7 and 7.5k RPM on the 300. I usually stayed in 4th. I never EVER rode in 6th doing the speed limit. I liked to be in a lower gear to where I had power handy to me. Cruising at 45-50MPH in 6th gear made the bike feel WAY TOO SLUGGISH, well, at least IMO.
Agree with this as well
i have a leo with baffle a i drilled a hole in the baffle for a little extra sound and in the high rpm range man it sounds good!
there some many things that influence this and there is no hard & fast rule, it depends on your level of riding experience, the maintenance or lack there of on your bike, condition of the roads/weather, etc
if you read thru your owners manual there is a guide there if you lost it, here it is again
Thanks, have the manual still but just didnt Think of Reading about that.. I dont have standard baffle, i got a delkevic mini 8" Carbon fiber exhaust.. But at +8k Rpm Its pretty loud, so tend to stay in 3"th gear when around the speed limits
I personally like to be at the high end of the rev spectrum- I feel that is where the engine came alive most. I would not be right near the red line though- I would just stay at around 9-10k, maybe 11 but not past that while cruising along. That is where I like to upshift as well- way near 11 k maybe even a little beyond for a split second right before upshifting.
So if the desired speed asked say for 7k on 6th gear or 9-10k on 5th I'd go for the latter.
I am not even sure it is a good idea (I can imagine it works/wears out engine internals way more due to much higher temperatures) but again, I feel I enjoy riding the bike most that way. Maybe that will change in time, who knows.
