Got password reset for no reason?

What's going? It happened to my other account on gixxer.com, can someone let me know if someone reset my password or it's some bug/scam?

It's some bullshit that Motorcycle.com is pushing on all the forums they own. I hate it. Just what I need, more complicated passwords to remember.

Is that what that was about? Increasing the password complexity?

My password was already a 20 character randomly generated string.

Oh, well...no big deal to generate a new one.

If they wanted to improve security, though, they would be best served to convert to https for everything.

Kind of badly handled, though...emailing the reset password in plain text? When the person isn't waiting for it? And not requiring them to change it when they log in?

This is Doing-It-Wrong 101.

(sorry...I'm in IT, so this sort of thing bugs me when they get it wrong)

I'm guessing something has been compromised along the line somewhere.
Every forum I'm a part of that is owned by Auto Guide has reset my password and sent me a new one.

It's for your protection, really. Perhaps there was an incident? I've had to reset all of my Motorcycle.com passwords too. Really, it's not big deal and it was announced.

If I had to guess, some hashed passwords got stolen; the simpler ones are easy to crack, so they've regenerated them all to be mathematically more robust in the event of this happening again.

The wording from the admins is ambiguous enough to suggest I'm not wrong.

The ridiculous part is the new password requirements are more stringent than my credit card and bank accounts!! This is just a forum to hang out in... not mission critical.

The worst that can happen if my account here is compromised is that someone else could post some nonsensical BS posing as me... would anyone notice?
