Question 650cc engine swap

I came acrosss this thread about ZX6R engine swap.
Engine swap

To make a long story short, it's not worth it and it's too difficult because ZX6R has Inline-4 and Ninja 300 has Parallel-Twin.

What if it's a Ninja 650? Would it be possible? Nobody makes mounting kit or engine swap kit so I guess everything needs to be custom made but I was just wondering if it's physically possible.

Sure, the Ninja 650 may be a bit bigger, but it doesn't look huge either.

If you can put an 1199R engine in a Grom...
But why would you want to?

Everything is physically possible, it's just a matter of how much work you are willing to put in to get it running.

Most people would probably say that with the amount of time, energy, and money required to do the swap you may as well have just bought a 650 or something else

There is lots of information on the web about swapping a Ninja 500 engine into a 250 frame.

But both those are bikes that have carburetors. I think once you get into bikes with electronic fuel injection like the Ninja 300, the technical difficulties of swapping engines skyrockets. (The wiring would be a challenge for sure.)

It can be done. But it would take lots of time, effort, and money.

I don't recall having seen a How-To for a EX250/500 swap. Just mentioned on threads, pictures, and a video of it running. That's all I was able to find in the past.

why? there are several reasons.

The Ninja 650 is a bit too heavy...although Ninja 300 is just as heavy as 1000cc supersport, not as heavy as Ninja 650.

If I upgrade it to supersport, that would just get me in trouble...+ supersport has high end focused power delivery.

I do like Ninja 300's upright riding position and low seat height.

I am unhappy with Ninja 300's heavy weight + low power. Yet I do not want a supersport. I want something like Mazda Miata or Lotus Elise of motorcycle, which is not currently available on the market as far as I know. The ZX2R and ZXR400 from back in the day would be ideal.

I know 650 engine would add weight, but still be lighter than Ninja 650...although it won't be lighter than Ducati 1199 Superleggera or anything.

I just went through this. Some choices are faired R3 (37 whp 368 lbs) or Ninja 300 of course, naked FZ-07 (65 whp 397 lbs), naked Street Triple (95 whp 403 lbs). No faired light weight bike (say, sub-420 lbs wet) around 65 whp exists in USA, afaik. If the Ninja 650 was 415 instead of 465 lbs, I'd give it a closer look, but ...

Well I'm comparing all the sportbikes, not naked bikes. They tend to be heavy with steel frame and all that.

As you know, the Ninja 300 weigh about same as 1000cc supersport.

The Ducati 1199 Superleggera is lighter than Ninja 300.
Ducati 1199 Superleggera: 155 kg (342 lb) dry 177 kg (390 lb) wet.
Ninja 300: 164 kg (362 lb) dry 174.6 kg (385.0 lb) wet
The new Suzuki GSX-R1000 is supposed to be the lightest GSX-R1000 yet, so it'll be about the same as Ninja 300 as well.

I know I'm comparing low end Ninja 300 to high end 1000cc sportbikes. So you might think it's an unfair comparison.

But let's think about it this way. I want to get something like Mazda Miata or Lotus Elise of motorcycle...Not Lamborghini Aventador of motorcycle as it will be too fast and dangerous.
The Aventador is fast, but Miata is lightweight sporscar.
You can have fun with Miata without getting into huge trouble...it's lightweight and nimbleness will bring lots of fun.

If Miata weighted same as Aventador, it won't be a lot of fun.

Same as Ninja 300. It's HEAVY as 1000cc, but makes less power. We need something light. As you can see, the ZX-2R was much lighter than Ninja 300, but still came with other goodies like 2 more cylinders, dual disk brakes, etc.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX2R
249cc Inline-4 DOHC
45 hp / 15,000 rpm
19 lb-ft / 11,500 rpm
Weight: 144 kg (317 lbs) dry

So only by comparing the ZX-2R and Ninja 300, the Ninja 300 is 45 lbs heavier despite having 2 less cylinders, more simple exhaust manufold, 1 less brake disk and cable at front, etc.
(144 kg (317 lbs) dry v.s. 164 kg (362 lb) dry)

I guess my biggest problem with the Ninja 300 is its weight, I want it to be at least 50 lbs lighter than the current model. But I don't know how the heck you could possibly take off 50 lbs.
