Has anyone swapped out the throttle tubes with a different bikes? Kinda like GSXR 600 riders swapp out for the R1 or R6 throttle tubes.

So, I did the penny tech zip tie mod and besides botching it up a little by trying to get more than this throttle can really deliver it is a step in the right direction. Next up will be a real quick turn assembly. My big question, are the throttle cables the same as the 250s?
Motion Pro has a full kit for the last gen 250 but no idea if it'll bolt up to the 300. For all "I can see at the bar end they are identical. I'll probably tear it down a bit to eyeball the throttle bodies but if anyone has access to the part numbers and could check it would be greatly appreciated.

If that works out, Motion Pro, Yoyodyne, cycle pirates and Kyle Racing all offer throttles. Anyone have any advice, or other brands to look at?

Thanks!

A few comp searches later I think I found my solution, a 06 up Yamaha R6 throttle and cables for $34 shipped off ebay. It is a true 1/6th turn throttle and I'll try to mod the pull cable to work on the 300. Worst case I need a custom cable which was the case with a motion Pro set up anyway. I'll be happy to ditch the zip ties glued to my throttle tube, it works to a degree but man, it is a sketchy mod. I'd have been happier to have plastic welded it but it is a temp fix anyway.

I have found guy used the earlier pre 06 R6 throttles in the stock housing and iirc it gave a 4mm less long pull. I'd guess the +06 R6 tube might just drop in too. I botched my housing trying to reach the sun so I can try mine and guess if it'll fit pretty closely. That sure would have been easier than what I ended up doing so hopefully my trials will better guide the next guy. FWIW, don't grind anything in the housing, as tempting as it may look. You end up loosing the stock throttle tube stop and it back spins as far as you grind it. Mine has 1/4" of play now. Works but annoying.

I've gutted my switches in the housing and put a single KTM pushbutton start switch (off my parted out 505SXf) on the bar, now I'm just waiting for the R6 assembly to arrive.

I read another guy used the tube only in a 08-12 250 so it should fit. Mine was so screwed up I didn't even bother trying. The area I trimmed might have given a false result anyway.

I've done a few hundred miles with it and it is much, much better. It could even be a shorter pull IMO but this is far better than stock.

You know me I gotta make it look good, its like $7 for a new bar, I am not to worried haha :D

You dont wanna know how anal I can be, I really scratched the crap out of my fork prelaod adjusters removing them for my emulator install.. You cant even see that area because there are caps that cover them up.. My wife had to talk me out of ordering new ones haha..

Well just tried to switch out the tubes real quick and the damn barend bolt was practically welded on. Stripped it out. I don't have any aftermarket ones lying around to through on so i didnt want to take the vise grips to them.

ive used a piece of pvc pipe around the throttle before. you get the same diameter or a little smaller and slice off a piece then cut it off where the cable quits rolling on the throttle and then sand the ends to a taper and snap it on the plastic throttle. it worked good for me.

I have recently completed the R6 throttle tube mod and thought I would add some details to this thread as it seemed difficult to find a definitive answer across forums with varying degrees of success

I took the plunge and ordered a 2006+ throttle tube. This was certainly a larger diameter as can be seen in the attached photo. This fit fine into the switch housing although the plastic cable guide for the pull cable did seem to be binding so I cut the edge off to allow a small clearance to the new larger throttle tube

The difference is certainly noticeable and a pleasant change in reducing the throttle movement. It is a welcome change being able to roll in more of the throttle without bending your wrist back or changing your hand position

On a side note the grip that came installed with the R6 tube is too short and leaves a gap at the end between the tube and the bar end and although useable looks pretty bad so if you can order without one and reuse the original it fits and looks much better
